Aaron Mills Apartments

The Aaron Mills Apartments is a new community of affordable housing in a historically industrial area of downtown Martinsville, Virginia. The site was a former mill occupied by American Furniture from the 1920s to the 1990s, and prior to that time it was used as a sawmill, lumberyard, coal yard and feed storage. After the furniture manufacturing facility ceased operation, the building burned down, and the City of Martinsville secured a Brownfields grant to perform site evaluation and cleanup to its current vacant land condition.

In 2016, West Virginia was officially the second oldest state in the country. At that time Woodlands and the Randolph County Housing Authority conducted a needs assessment in Randolph County.

The West Virginia Rural Health Infrastructure Loan Fund helped pharmacists Kenney Hamrick and Matthew Carpenter launch Appalachian RX after the local Walgreens closed in Webster Springs. The financing and business-planning support helped establish an independent pharmacy providing prescriptions, immunizations, medical supplies, and other services in rural Webster County.

The Center for Rural Health Development financed Dr. Kristy Naternicola’s acquisition of an established Sutton dental practice, allowing the retiring owner to transfer the business to another local provider. The financing preserved dental services in rural Braxton County and enabled the practice to continue serving patients from several surrounding counties.
Cultivating Connections: Mother Earth Food’s Flourishing Journey with PCAP

In Asheville, North Carolina, Andrea and Graham DuVall embarked on a mission to cultivate a resilient local food system that celebrates community, supports local farmers and artisans, and promotes sustainability and connection. From that mission grew Mother Earth Food, with transformative financial backing from Partner Community Capital (PCAP).
Firefly Commons

Firefly Commons is a mixed-generation community in the City of Elkins, West Virginia. The community contains 16 new homes between seven buildings: six duplexes are for seniors, and one building is a townhouse-style unit housing for families. Firefly Commons has been in the works since 2014, when community members recognized the importance of affordable homes in an area with a rapidly growing senior population in one of the oldest regions of West Virginia.
Goldilocks Pediatrics

The West Virginia Rural Health Infrastructure Loan Fund helped Jessica Mongold establish Goldilocks Pediatrics, an independent pediatric and family medical practice in Buckhannon. The practice opened in January 2026, quickly exceeded its first-year patient goal, and now provides care to children and families across North Central West Virginia.

The Center for Rural Health Development financed Charity Woods’ purchase of a building and launch of Hometown Health Care in Sutton. The family nurse practitioner practice expanded primary care in rural Braxton County and includes home visits for patients who have difficulty traveling for medical care.
Jevue Club

The rehabilitation of Jevue Club preserved 40 affordable two-bedroom apartments for families in Wetzel County, including units for households below 40% of area median income. CAHEC invested about $4.3 million in private equity as the property underwent extensive unit, building, and community-space improvements.
Moore Vision Center

The Center for Rural Health Development provided financing that helped Moore Vision Center remain open after declining coal employment and other financial pressures threatened the Madison optometry practice. The loan stabilized cash flow and preserved local eye-care services for residents of rural Boone County.
Northview Apartments Impress Local Residents and US Senators

Norton’s Ultimate Small Business

Jeff Strahin, now-owner of Jeff’s Ultimate Grill, came to Woodlands in 2020 through the Mon Forest Business Initiative. Jeff, a veteran of the US Navy, had been living in North Carolina for a long time where he raised his family. He had been working for many years for the Applebee’s franchise and had worked his way up through the ranks to the position of assistant manager.
