Impact in the District

Between 2005 and 2023, there was $232 million in total lending from CDFI Fund award recipients, including $39.6 million in loans to businesses and entrepreneurs, $45.6 million in housing development and mortgage lending, $108.4 million in consumer lending, $26.5 million in lending to commercial real estate and community facilities, with the balance going to other activities. NPH attracting higher-income professionals to live full-time on tribal lands

Karigan Estates is a project of the Navajo Nation, a master-planned, 113-acre site consisting of single-family homes, apartment complexes, townhomes, retail/commercial, and governmental offices. The Nation’s Division of Economic Development transferred 25 lots to (NPH), the designated developer when this phase began several years ago. NPH has provided marketing, design, construction management, homebuyer education, and counseling services to prospective buyers since that time. From 2010-2017, Community Housing Capital (CHC) provided NPH with $3 million of financing to help develop the Karigan Estates.

White Mountain Apache Timber

The last large sawmill in northern Arizona, one of the tribe’s largest employers, and a significant part of the wood industry shut operations down in 2010. The tribe later engaged two of the timber industry’s top consultants who revamped their business plan, leveraging financing to upgrade the mill with new technological equipment, establish a working capital, and the mill reopened in 2014.
