Detroit CDFI coalition amplifies positive outcomes in communities across the city
Throughout Michigan, there are more than 55 community development financial institutions, with 47 of those CDFIs headquartered in the state. These mission-driven financial institutions provide support for consumers, businesses, and real estate projects where traditional funding isn’t available.
The Watershed by Root & Branch
The Watershed, a development by Root and Branch Real Estate, involved removing three small storefront buildings that were in disrepair and replacing with a new five-story, 25,000-square-foot mixed-use building. This initiative will provide paid internships to individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities, offering support to help employees identify and achieve career goals, develop job-related skills and plan for career advancement.
Robinson Landing
Robinson Landing is a development of 30 new homes on a quiet, tree-lined street. Located in the Grand Haven city limits, the neighborhood is connected to in-town amenities by sidewalk, is walkable to schools, and is only 4 miles from Grand Haven State Park. Robinson Landing has a homeowners association created to maintain the single-family character of the neighborhood.
Carriage Town – Flint
Michigan Community Capital (MCC) and Uptown Reinvestment Corporation (URC) partnered to bring the first new construction, for-sale homes to the city of Flint in a decade. The development aimed to promote homeownership, generate long-term tax revenue, stabilize the local housing market, and reinforce the community's strong sense of identity. This project redeveloped three land bank-owned lots in the historic Carriage Town neighborhood.
