Testimonials

As a CDFI, we are able to provide loans and investments to borrowers for projects that improve the quality of life in our community’s low to moderate income census tracts. Frequently, these transactions are not supported by financial institutions directly under competitive terms and conditions that we as a CDFI can make.

Dan Kane, Dayton Region New Market Fund, Kettering, OH

Our organization serves entrepreneurs and small businesses in Southeast Missouri. Located in the 8th Congressional District, the poorest district in the state, our customers rely on our program and the funding available through programs like the CDFI to get started and stay open. While not a CDFI yet we have plans to apply for TA and move forward for certification this year.

CDFIs are critical to increasing access to capital in communities across the country. Here at Communities Unlimited, we are filling gaps that the market cannot fill. Leveraging the CDFI Fund, we provide lending services that are critical to basic infrastructure in rural places, sparking entrepreneurship in small towns, and deploying capital to increase investment in homes and property in rural areas. Our lending portfolio includes rural and regional water and wastewater systems, small business loans for unserved entrepreneurs who cannot access a loan from a traditional bank, and consumer loans for home improvement, private wells, and private septic systems in rural places. The best part about our lending services: our clients pay them off. These are not handouts but loans. CU’s lending services, through the CDFI Fund, are critical for increasing access to capital and driving economic growth in rural places.

I strongly urge Congress to support the funding for the Department of the Treasury’s CDFI Fund….As a governing board member of Central States Development Partners, Inc., a national, certified Community Development Entity (CDE), I can personally attest to the measurable and lasting impact the CDFI Fund programs have on Main Street America. In my work with both Economic Growth Corporation and Central States Development Partners, I have witnessed firsthand how targeted federal investment through the CDFI Fund acts as a catalyst for private-sector growth in communities that need it most. These dollars support job-creating projects, from manufacturing, healthcare, and community facilities that increase access to vital community services needed within severely and deeply distressed communities.
