The CDFI Advocacy Map from CDFI Friendly America

The CDFI Advocacy Map is a free tool to help CDFIs and their allies show their impact to policymakers. It maps CDFI lending across the U.S. at multiple levels—states, Congressional Districts, and State-level legislative districts—to focus policymakers on the places they care about most. The CDFI Advocacy Map is a product of CDFI Friendly America.

The map draws on Transaction Level Report (TLR) data submitted by CDFIs to the CDFI Fund and provides a comprehensive view of lending activity across the country. Users can explore lending totals, compare regions, and identify the communities benefiting from CDFI investments. Analysis of the lending data found that CDFIs have made investments in every state and every congressional district in the United States. Since 2005, CDFIs have provided more than $272 billion in financing nationwide, supporting economic development, affordable housing, small businesses, community facilities, and other community development activities in urban, rural, and tribal communities.

In communications with policymakers and hill staff the most important thing to focus on is tangible results, this map allows CDFI advocates to do exactly that. Numbers become clear, localized impact stories that show the impact of CDFI investments across the country. The map shows local, state, and federal legislators and stakeholders that CDFIs are making an impact in their districts and states regardless of political affiliation of an area.

We encourage Coalition members and partners to explore the map and use it as part of their advocacy efforts.
